My Teaching Philosophy

I believe singing is more than a skill — it’s a source of joy, expression, and even healing. My own vocal journey has shown me how powerful singing can be as part of a self-care practice, and it’s a gift I love passing on to every student who walks into the studio.

I teach through a whole-body, holistic approach that emphasizes healthy alignment, breath and core engagement, efficient airflow, a high tongue position, and the release of unnecessary tension. While my foundation is classical technique, everything we do is adaptable to the style you love — whether that’s musical theatre, pop, classical, or anything in between. You won’t “turn into an opera singer” unless that’s your goal… but you will build a strong, healthy, sustainable voice.

In lessons, I use the same tools and techniques I rely on in my own professional training — from hand gestures and physical cues for airflow, to resistance bands, to exercises designed to strengthen breath support and release tension. (As my teacher always says… who needs a gym membership when you’ve got voice lessons?)

Because every voice is unique, every lesson is customized. I tailor each session to the student’s age, level, goals, learning style, and vocal development. Whether you’re 8 or 68, brand-new or advanced, I’ll meet you exactly where you are and build a plan that supports both your technique and your confidence. Your lesson tier (30, 45, or 60 minutes) determines how deep we go in each session — shorter lessons focus on core technique and repertoire, while longer lessons allow for musicianship, acting, diction, and bigger-picture vocal growth.

I also incorporate mindfulness and self-care tools when appropriate — using breathwork, gentle movement, mantras, and calming vocalises to help students reduce stress and reconnect with their bodies.

Above all, my goal is for you to feel safe, supported, inspired, and capable. Whether you’re taking voice lessons or working with me on music career coaching, I want our time together to feel like a space where you can grow, explore, and shine — both onstage and off.

Brie ♡

What ages do you teach?

I normally teach students ages 8 through adult (though some exceptions can be made). This age range allows me to fully support healthy vocal development, focus, and learning readiness. If you’re unsure where your child fits, feel free to reach out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you only teach classical singing?

Not at all! While my technique is classically based, it applies beautifully to musical theatre, pop, folk, crossover, and more. Technique stays the same — style is flexible. I love helping students explore whatever genre feels authentic to them.

What will my first lesson be like?

Your first lesson (or trial) is a warm, low-pressure introduction. We’ll talk about your goals, explore your voice, maybe do some technique work, and choose music that fits your level and age. No experience required and no need to prepare a song unless you want to.

How do lesson Packages work?

Monthly packages give you a discounted rate in exchange for a consistent weekly lesson time. You choose 30, 45, or 60-minute lessons, pay at the start of the month, and your slot is yours. A la carte lessons are available if you need flexibility or prefer a one-off session.

Do you offer online lessons?

At this time, I am teaching in-person only at Music on Main. Virtual make-up lessons may be available in certain circumstances — just ask!

What materials do I need?

You’ll receive curated music and resources as part of your lessons. I’ll recommend books and materials to purchase as we go, but I’ll always guide you toward the most helpful (and budget-friendly) options.

How much should I practice?

Consistency is key. Younger students should aim for short, focused sessions several times a week. Older students and adults should aim for daily or near-daily practice. I’ll give each student a personalized practice plan based on their lesson tier and goals.

Can I sit during my lesson?

Proper alignment is essential for healthy vocal technique, which means we work standing during lessons — except in cases of medical need. This ensures the breath, body, and voice work together efficiently and safely.

How do payments work?

Payment for monthly bundles is due at the start of each month. I understand finances can be tight; if you need a short-term payment plan, I’m happy to discuss options. A la carte lessons are paid at the time of scheduling.

Can parents sit in on lessons?

Parents are welcome to be present during the consult/trial lesson. After that, students tend to learn best one-on-one, so parents are encouraged to sit in the waiting area, but I’m always happy to chat before or after lessons if you have any questions or concerns.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Life happens! With 4-24 hours’ notice, we can reschedule your lesson. Last-minute cancellations and no-shows are not eligible for make-ups. Full details are in the Studio Policies.

Let’s build a confident, healthy voice you’ll love.
