July 3, 2017
So, this is kind of late posting as our anniversary was actually in April (and our trip was in May), but you know me..queen procrastinator, here! 😉
Anyways, it’s taken us a while but the hubs and I are finally in a place financially to be able to take a real vacation for our anniversary and I knew exactly where I wanted to go.
Ok, so I really wanted to go back to Europe (I had traveled to Austria & the Czech Republic back in the 90s with a choral group I belonged to), but my next need-to-see place was Portland, Maine.
Why Portland out of all the places I could choose?
Well, first of all, Maine is simply breathtaking – I really wish I had taken more photos that could truly capture just how beautiful it was there!
Secondly, Portland is extremely eco-conscious. They literally have a Sustainability Office that collaborates with community organizations, businesses, and citizens to conserve energy, reduce waste & preserve their natural resources. I so wish my city had this!
Also, all of the eateries we went to offered gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options and all the food was locally sourced and most was organic. Everything was prepared fresh and tasted clean – not to mention everything was just deeelish times ten!
Needless to say, we ate a lot. But we also walked a lot too as it was easier to walk to all of the shops than to drive around.
Some of our favorite places were Bam Bam Bakery, Otto’s Pizza, Flatbread Pizza Company, and the Portland Lobster Company.
We had breakfast at Bam Bam Bakery more than once & my personal fave was the vegan “pop tart” (above)! 👌🏻
Enjoying a low carb organic, grass fed burger at Elevation Burger. I skipped the bun so I wouldn’t feel bad eating so many fries! 😉
Besides eating, we visited some adorable shops and found lots of cute & unique gifts to bring home to the fam.
Of course, we also had to check out the famous Portland Head Lighthouse as well as the Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse and Two Lights State Park.
One other place we had to check out while in Portland was Coast City Comics..because we’re nerds natch!
There was literally so much to take in and so many beautiful things to see that I just can’t fit everything into one post! The architecture and rich Arts Culture definitely appealed to the artist in me, while the emphasis on eco-friendly & sustainability appealed to the eco-babe in me. You can say that I fell in love with Portland (and Maine in general) and I most certainly want to go back!
The Inn at St. John was our home for the week. Highly recommend if you ever visit Portland! The staff was super friendly and the continental breakfast was just YUM! 🙂
